Outstanding Introductory to Information Technology
By Steven
This is a textbook used for Dr Fox's CIT-130 class. I took that class with this book and the book is well written for the novice audience it is intended for. This book provides a survey of Information Technology from the ground up and is packed full of great information. The book has review questions at the end of each chapter to help confirm you have absorbed the chapter's contents. The answers to these review questions can be easily found within each chapter. There are also discussion questions to help broaden your thinking about the subjects. Also at the end of each chapter you will find a list of books for further reading into the subjects of that chapter. This is a survey of many different topics in Information Technology so don't expect every detail about any one subject. Instead, this book will prepare the novice to continue learning. The only thing that could make this book better would be page numbers posted next to the "end of chapter review terms". The page numbers would provide a quick reference for studying.

Hugely useful starting point
By Anna Mortelliti Call
I've gotten so much good out of this book that, even though I borrowed it from a library and didn't buy it, I feel compelled to write a review. In fact, I may well end up purchasing this book - that's how useful it is. Seven years after getting my Master's in library science, I find myself in a mixed IT/library role, based on my acquired in situ knowledge, despite having never learned the basics of CS. I felt very uncomfortable with this state of affairs, but I can't go back to school due to the high cost. I sought high and low on Safari ebooks and found this absolute gem. It covers the basics that I never learned in school right up through the stuff I intuited and taught myself later on. The questions and discussion topics at the end of each chapter are extremely useful. The continuing resources are exactly what I was looking for. It's a readable review of everything important, (including how OSes generally work behind the scenes, which is critical to my job,) and shows you the path forward. My version's a little dated - I'll definitely need to find some more info on Windows 10, Chrome, and Android soon, but then again, this was never going to be the last CS textbook I read. I can't describe what a niche this book fills. Highly recommended for others in my position!
