Tasha was 13 years old and hiding in a forest, waiting for her father, when she is attacked by the largest wolf she had ever seen. As she laid there waiting to die she is picked up by 2 men and transported to the Facility, where she has been held for 8 years when;
Jack, an old vampire has allowed himself to be captured to gain entrance to the facility meets Tasha when she is brought to him for him to feed. He finds out that not only is she a telepath but also a werewolf, a fact she denies as she has never changed even though the people at the facility has been trying to make her do so. They develop a bond and when he hears her being tortured he orders his men to raid the facility and he rescues her and takes her to meet Sebastian, the head of the local werewolf pack.
The story goes on as they try to find out who and what she is, who ordered her attacked and why and are there others like her.
This book, if it had been longer and developed the characters better would had received 5 stars instead of 4 as it was interesting and gripping and made me want to know much more about each person and what was happening. Maybe in the next book of the series. We will have to wait and see.

Which was mostly the problem, it was too short.

A longer story would have allowed more prior background and more character development. I'm not a big fan of novellas, I'd much rather sit down and read a full length book that satisfies me. That being said, it really wasn't bad as far as it went, and has an acceptable ending that will lead smoothly to the next installment.

Tasha is not a bad heroine if one takes into account her lack of worldly experience due to her incarceration. Jack the Vamp is the suitably sexy love interest, although Sebastian the Werewolf appears to be a fine future contender to round out a potential love triangle.

Spicy sex scenes, not for the young ones. Nothing really too unusual with the Telepath/Vampire/Werewolf scenario, but still nicely presented.

Quick and easy read.

Great Story! I wish it were longer.

I loved the heroine. She was spunky and not afraid to speak her mind even if it caused her trouble. Jack could have used a little more description as could Sebastian for that matter. The book was left without a clear ending so I am assuming there will be more. I hope so. I would really like to read more about these characters and get a little more back story on them and on the organization that held them hostage. The author has a very good writing style. The story kept my interest until the end. A very pleasant surprise for a free book.

I suspected as much, but now I know.

I'm so glad I had read this book when my doc ordered this med (Tambocor) for me. As a matter of fact, as far as I can tell, every FDA approved drug out there deserves the same skepticism and hesitation on my part. I did take 3 doses of the med and had a horrid reaction at home alone. At least I knew how bad the reaction could be and that there was no antidote. I quit the med and prayed to survive the reaction.

This is an important book

In 1989, tens of thousands of people died from a medical mistake, and yet few Americans know the story. This book presents the well-researched facts, which knowledgable people don't dispute. Still, the story just doesn't move anyone. There is no blood. The deaths were usually sudden, with no chance for lingering sympathy. And there is no single villian. Our traditional society is not able to handle this type of tragedy. Since 1989, the story has repeated itself with other medicines and out society still does not know how to respond.

More people need to read this book.

Not sure what Connolly's intention was with writing this book ...

Not sure what Connolly's intention was with writing this book, but his efforts failed for me. Large parts of the subject matter is not just common sense, rather dead obvious. He advises to listen actively, don't write the details, abbreviate, etc which most of us have been told since grade school. Some of the more critical topics were skimmed over with little to no explanation or examples. For example, the advice on mind maps was about one page long with one visual aid. It might show use for some, wasn't to me.

Very basic

This book would be more beneficial to have included some example images or drawings of the methods described. Such a vital ingredient that was overlooked. Therefore I have given it a low ranking.

Useful introduction for perhaps high school students although they may likely use software for such tasks from here on.

An interesting look at the German home front

This thoroughly engaging, very in-depth survey of the German fashion industry expertly weaves together not just the history of clothing design and manufacture but also the various social, political and economic forces which propelled Germany from WWI through the immediate post-WW2 era. This story particularly provides yet another example of how, despite their domestic-style sabre-rattling to keep both homeland and occupied populations in line, the Nazis again failed to bend popular taste and culture to match their warped political ideology, the principles of which were inconsistently applied and were thus generally unworkable (the cinema is another prime example, as outlined in the text of "Ministry of Illusion").

References to high-profile fashion publications such as Die Dame and Elegante Welt, and the articles and photo features/advertisements which they carried, leave me wanting for more directly from their pages, though such availability is limited to German state museum collections. But, the photos which are thankfully included in this book are alluring and tempting samples of a part of German social history which cries out for a "big picture book."

I have only two relatively minor reasons for not rating this book 5 stars---one, it could do with a little more organization in the form of subject headline breaks within each chapter, just to help summarize as one reads along; and two, more of the book titles, organization names and other items expressed entirely in German could have been translated to give more immediate depth to the material. But I can in no way criticize this work---it is fascinating, comprehensive and entertaining, and I heartily recommend it.

Fascinating

I read this work for a graduate class on totalitarianism and this was one of my favorite works. Guenther's approach to aesthetics and fashion as a way of analyzing Nazi Germany is unique and insightful. She brings to light the disparity between the rhetoric of the political leaders and the realities of the lives of the German nobility, particularly the purchasing habits of the wives and mistresses of those same leaders.

worth a read

Nazi fashion. Shows it was complex because of course women would not do as told. To my surprise, I actually felt sorry for the German women by the time she got to describing the end of the war, though the way the jews in the fashion industry were treated was of course totally in human and unconscionable. Interesting to see the details, though sad. She's a bit of a clumsy writer though the information is so fascinating. Scholarly book, not art book.

Inspiring true story

Summary: Mira is an artist. She loves to draw what she sees around her, and give her pictures to family, friends, and neighbors. One day, a man comes to her neighborhood who loves art as much as she does. He starts to paint murals around the community, and he invites Mira and her neighbors to join him. The bright colors are like magic, and when the murals are done, the painters don’t stop. They paint sidewalks, utility boxes, and benches. The man who started it all unites everyone with a wave of his paintbrush. Pages at the end tell about Rafael Lopez, who is both the man in the story and the illustrator of this book, and how he transformed San Diego’s East Village, and has since moved on to other communities around the world. 40 pages; ages 4-8.

Pros: An inspiring true story about one man who made a difference. Not only did he beautify his own community, but his work has raised money to help talented artists get more education, and his movement has spread around the world. His illustrations convey the magical transformations of his art.

Cons: I would have loved to have seen more photos of the real murals and other artwork.

Brilliant Testament to the Power of Art

Based on the true story of the colorful transformation of the East Village neighborhood in San Diego, California, this picture book shows how art can impact quality of life. Mira is a little girl who loves to create art. She lives in a gray city where she tries to share her art and change things, but her art is too little to make big changes. Then she meets a man who is creating huge murals and who allows Mira to help him. Soon other neighbors are helping and colors begin to fill the streets, creating a close-knit neighborhood.

There is a sense of joy and hope throughout this picture book, led by little Mira, a girl with the heart of an artist from the very start of the book. Just sharing her art with her neighbors is an act of artistic courage that sets the tone for the rest of the story. The text is accented by “Bams!” and “Pows” that add to the dynamic tone. Everything here is filled with creative energy and a cheery tone.

López’s art shows the gray concrete city and then imposes Mira and her own colorful attitude against it. The paint splashes on the page and also creates vibrant rainbows of swirling colors that dance on the page. The diverse neighborhood is captured with a richness that is captivating. As color fills the page, it fills the neighborhood too.

A brilliant testament to the power of art and the way it can transform a life and a neighborhood. Appropriate for ages 4-7.

Great Trivia for those who are really Obsessed with TV!

I actually bought this book at Barnes and Nobles..... I really enjoyed this book! This book is definitely for those who are truly obsessed with TV! I thought that I was really good at trivia, but when I tried the questions in this book, I was not as "TV obsessed" as I thought! The book covers a wide range of "channels" or topics from the heyday of TV, comedy, drama, talk shows and even reality shows. There are 2,500 multiple-choice questions in all and has an electronic computer that can generate random questions or you can type in the question number and answer the questions that way. The computer will keep track the questions you get right or wrong. It will give you the correct answer if you get it wrong and will also provide a percentage of how many questions you answer correctly. The game can be played alone or with another player. The computer will keep score. The batteries are replaceable, so players can get maximum use of the product. This book is great for trivia buffs, TV mavens and generally anyone that like casual games. This book will have you wanting to play more, especially if you let the computer randomize the questions. If I ever have to go the field or deployment, this would be a great companion!
One problem I see: When I was playing the game, I had it set to random questions. There are 2,500 questions in all. I ended up getting the SAME question number come up 3 times while playing! I got the question right when it came up the first time! I mean, 2,500 questions! You shouldn't be seeing the same question twice or three times like I did!
All in all, this book is fun and educational! I would highly recommend!

Love this book!!!

I saw the book at my sisters how tried it out and LOVED it!!! I like to think I know a lot about TV but this book is proving how much I don't know about TV shows. If you love TV shows this is the book for you.

A Great Buy

This book is terrific. It has given my friends and me many hours of entertainment. I definitely recommend it to all who enjoy TV.
