Better to buy the original version

I got the original edition of Through My Eyes the day it came out and I read it cover to cover in one sitting. It was a great story and a great read. When I saw that a young readers edition would be out in time for Christmas I ordered a copy for my nephew ~ who loves to read and is a huge Tebow fan. I expected this version to be more simplified than it was. In fact I didn't see much of a difference at all. I recommend getting the original.

Finally a positive role model!

Bought for my 10 year old son who loves sports and asked me for this book for Christmas because he knows Tim is a Christian, How wonderful to have real life role models in society for our chidren to look up too, so lacking these days.

Excellent book for young athletes

I am not sure why people are rating this book so low just because they didn't realize it was the youth version of the original book. This is skewing the rating that this book should get! If they did a simple search for "Through My Eyes" or even "Tim Tebow" both versions show up and if you look at both books it is very easy to determine which one is the adult version.

I have read both and this version is an excellent read for any young athlete. A great combination of sports, faith, and family stories. His dedication and drive to be the best that he can be is an inspiration to all youth, not just athletes.

About the Author
Janice M. Aski is assistant professor and director of the Italian language program at The Ohio State University. She specializes in foreign language pedagogy and historical Italian/Romance linguistics. Her research in foreign language pedagogy explores a variety of topics, such as testing, teaching reading at the elementary level, and how first-year Italian textbooks and grammar practice activities reflect the most current research in second language acquisition. Her publications in historical Italian/Romance linguistics focus on the social, pragmatic and cognitive aspects of phonological and morphological change.

Diane Musumeci is Associate Professor of Italian and SLATE (Second Language Acquisition and Teacher Education) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she is Head of the Department of Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. She received her Ph.D. in Italian linguistics with a Certificate of Advanced Study in SLATE from the University of Illinois at Urban-Champaign in 1989. For sixteen years she was the Director of the Italian language program. She conducts research in content-based instruction and classroom language acquisition. She teaches a wide range of courses from Italian language and linguistics to doctoral seminars on the history of second language teaching. She has published numerous articles and chapters in books and is the author of Il carciofo: Strategie di lettura e proposte d'attività (McGraw-Hill, 1990) and Breaking Tradition: An Exploration of the Historical Relationship Between Theory and Practice in Second Language Teaching (McGraw-Hill, 1997).

Avanti: Beginning Italian Review

I am content with the book but I was disappointed that the book did not come with the Access Code. I paid $160 for a book that said it came with an Access Code but it did not and now I have to spend $50 or more on an Access Code in the middle of the semester. I could have spent $30 more and get my book from my school's Bookstore that had an Access Code included. I am not sure if I am going to continue to get my books from Amazon.com because this is not the first time it has happened. This is why I am rating it 2 stars.

Never Again -- Can I Give 0 Stars?

I bought this book as requested by my university for my Beginning Italian I course. Amazon's price was a few dollars cheaper than other online sources and almost $100 dollars cheaper than my school's bookstore.

Pros:
-- The book is colorful and uses images as well as text to teach.

Cons:
-- Very limited activities are able to be completed individually, most require a classmate/partner or further instruction from the professor. This made studying difficult.
-- Even with Amazon's cheaper price the book was very expensive for the information provided. I felt that a lot of key terms were absent due to the belief that we already knew them -- but since it is a beginners book, we didn't.

Conclusions: I would not reinvest in this book. However if it is required that you buy this text book and the online code separate...once you buy the online code the company offers to send you a full color loose leaf textbook for about $15. As others have stated this book, and the accompanying online connect product, are just a lazy excuse for a teaching tool. Teachers lean of this book and the online software to teach and the students suffer. This book in no way advanced my education, I ended up renting another Italian book that was not assigned/suggested to help complete my education. What a waste of money.

Immersing himself in Egyptian culture, Lane learned the Arabic language and adopted the Arab way of life. When his health began failing, he moved to Egypt for a change of atmosphere and to continue his studies. While in Egypt, Lane began to study ancient Egypt, but soon became more entranced by modern customs and society. He relied on Egyptian men to help him gather information, especially on the topic of Egyptian women, on which he wrote many books. Lane also translated One Thousand and One Nights, though his greatest work remains The Arabic-English Lexicon.

About the Author
Edward William Lane (1801-76), a name known to almost everyone in all the many fields of Middle East studies, was the author of a number of highly influential works: An Account of the Manners and Customs of the Modern Egyptians (1836), his translation of The Thousand and One Nights (1839-41), Selections from the Kur-an (1843), and the Arabic-English Lexicon (1863-93). In 2000, his long-forgotten manuscript Description of Egypt was published for the first time by the AUC Press.

About the Author
The authors have developed and co-instructed environmental interpretation classes at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, College of Natural Resources for 30 years. They created the Interpreters Handbook Series in 1988, a series of training manuals for the interpretive profession. The team serves as a consultant to interpretive agencies and private organizations, facilitating workshops and providing planning and evaluation services. Their enthusiasm for natural history grew from their childhood explorationsMike in northwest Iowa and Ron in the Nebraska Sandhills.

Good Addition to any Interpretive Collection

This book is worth adding to your library on interpretive centers and planning. It isn't a how-to as much as an inspirational review of what is out there and how one may wish to adapt one's own interpretive project. Excellent photography outlines many of the principles of interpretive planning, site design and the history of various centers. I have no hesitation in endorsing this book as a useful addition to any interpretive collection, I was definitely able to glean some ideas for our project in the Orinoco River basin of Colombia.

Did not expect the well written history of nature centers. A bonus. The centers reviewed were were for a variety of landscapes and were educational in presentation. A great help for getting ideas for improvements to our local center.
