which I don't like as much

I see a few others complaining about the lack of information in the book, but this is exactly what I wanted. I'm not sure what the definition of coffee table book is, but that's what I imagine this to be. I plan on leaving it in my living space where my dunnys are displayed, and will hopefully just be able to point to this book when people ask me about them.

I also have the second installment, which I don't like as much. There are interviews in between which breaks up the art. This one doesn't have that.

Minus one star because a few artists got more pages than I'd have personally given them. If I had paid full price I might be a little more critical of that, but grabbing this used was the way to to anyway.

This provides for a great representation of designer toys. Most of my friends do not understand my obsession with this art form, so I now refer them to the intro of this book by Paul Budnitz, and they "get it" more. Good variety of toys shown, and I appreciate it being sectioned by country.

great coffee table book

i've owned this book for years now (as well as the part 2 black cover version) and it has held up great over many moves and being displayed on shelves, coffee tables, etc. nothing super in depth but a fun - and great looking - book to page through if you're into collecting these vinyl toys for fun.

A Tour de Force in Parametric Modeling in Maya

Amazing integration of parametric design process with the powerful creative facilities in Maya. I had been waiting for a book exactly like this but had not found it since the topic is an amalgam of high-powered concepts for creating unique art and structures. Only someone like the author who evidently has delved deeply into how Maya features enable parametric modeling through automation, animation, simulation and even fabrication could deliver this tour de force that will open up a new universe of creative possibilities beyond typical 3D modeling. I'm already applying these techniques to great effect.

What an incoherent mess

This book is a poorly edited, poorly formatted piece of garbage.

There is so much meaningless post-modern garbage that it's hard to discern what the author is trying to say.

It's clear the author had little actual content to offer and decided to pad the book with endless meaningless sentences that simply don't mean anything.

- Terrible spelling, punctuation, grammar
- Awful low-res screenshots and images
- Confusing flow of ideas

Avoid unless absolutely desperate to do parametric design in Maya the way I was.

I was particularly looking for a specific song and had traced it to "Advent Youth Sing" So it was there and was reminded once again what a great little songbook it is. A little older now, not quite as contemporary as we thought of it when it first came out, I'd say it rather classic now.
